Caverns are within 3 km. East of the town of Venado and about 30 minutes drive from La Fortuna de San Carlos, Costa Rica. It is known that the entrance to the cave was discovered in 1962 and date from the Miocene period (makes about 15 to 20 million years). For a long time they were submerged in the ocean depths, however, due to the movement of tectonic plates, the caverns rose to form part of the surface. Most of them consist of limestone, stalactites, stalagmites and corals, also capricious rock formations due to the erosive action of underground river that crosses
